What is the San Francisco Essentials Pass?
The San Francisco Essentials Pass from Go City gives you access to three of the city's top attractions - for the fixed price of $74, without having to book a comprehensive sightseeing package.
You choose three attractions freely from a pool of nine highlights. These include a Golden Gate Bay Cruise, the Exploratorium at Pier 15, an all-day bike rental from Blazing Saddles, the San Francisco Zoo, the Walt Disney Family Museum and SFMOMA. There is no compulsory category - you put together your San Francisco Essentials Pass entirely according to your interests.
Particularly practical: none of the nine attractions require a reservation in advance. You simply turn up on site and show your San Francisco Essentials Pass. The Essentials Pass is valid for 30 days from the first visit and can be canceled free of charge for 90 days until activation. Go City also offers a savings guarantee: if you don't save compared to individual tickets, Go City will refund the difference. With a price of $74 for adults, the San Francisco Essentials Pass is the cheapest Essentials Pass in the USA.

So that you are not surprised at the entrance, you will find the most important exclusions here:
- Hop-On Hop-Off Big Bus - only included in the Explorer Pass and All-Inclusive Pass.
- California Academy of Sciences - only included in the Explorer Pass and All-Inclusive Pass. One of the strongest arguments for upgrading to the Explorer Pass.
- Bridge to Bridge Cruise (Red and White Fleet) - only included in the Explorer Pass and All-Inclusive Pass.
- Alcatraz Island Tour - not included in Go City passes. Tickets for Alcatraz must be booked separately via the official NPS website - often weeks in advance during peak season.
- Public transportation (Muni, BART, Cable Cars) - not included in San Francisco Essentials Pass. Cable cars cost $8 per ride.
If you don't want to miss out on the California Academy of Sciences or the hop-on hop-off bus, the Go City Explorer Pass from $89 includes both and offers a much larger pool of attractions.
Frequently asked questions about the San Francisco Essentials Pass
How long is the San Francisco Essentials Pass valid for?
The San Francisco Essentials Pass is valid for 30 days from the first visit. The 30 days start with your first visit to an attraction. After purchase, you have a whole year to activate the Essentials Pass.
Can I cancel the Essentials Pass free of charge?
Yes, you can cancel the Essentials Pass free of charge within 90 days of the date of purchase - as long as it has not yet been activated. Once you have presented the San Francisco Essentials Pass at the first attraction, it is considered activated and can no longer be refunded.
Do I have to book attractions in advance?
None of the nine Essentials attractions require a reservation in advance. You can show up spontaneously and present your Essentials Pass. This makes the San Francisco Essentials Pass particularly flexible - you decide on the spot which attraction you want to visit next.
Is the San Francisco Essentials Pass worth it?
Yes, in most cases. Three top attractions cost between $84 and $118 individually. With the San Francisco Essentials Pass you always pay $74 - that's a saving of up to $44 (37 %) per person, depending on your choice. What's more, Go City offers a savings guarantee: if you don't save compared to one-way tickets, Go City will refund the difference. The combination of a low price and zero reservation requirement makes the San Francisco Essentials Pass particularly attractive.
How do I connect the Essentials Pass to the app?
After your purchase, you will receive a confirmation email with a confirmation code. Download the Go City app from the App Store or Google Play and enter the code. The Essentials Pass will then be synchronized with your account. Synchronization does not yet activate the San Francisco Essentials Pass - the 30 days of validity only start the first time you visit an attraction on site.
Can I buy the Essentials Pass for several people?
Yes, you choose the number of adults and children when purchasing. Each person receives their own digital Essentials Pass in the app. Children from 3 to 12 years pay $54 instead of $74. Children under the age of 3 usually do not need a ticket - however, the exact rules depend on the respective attraction.
Is public transportation included?
No. Muni, BART and cable cars are not included in the San Francisco Essentials Pass. Cable cars cost $8 per ride. For Muni and BART, we recommend a Clipper Card, which is available at most stations.
